Chrysalis Academy turns 25
On 4 June 2025, the Chrysalis Academy celebrated its 25th anniversary. This was an opportune time to reflect on the 25 years, since its founding by the Western Cape Government in the year 2000. The Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, A. Marais, Chrysalis Academy Trustees, under the leadership of Dr. M. Le Roux, Mr M. Wiley, the Founder of the Academy, many former and current staff and some students attended the intimate and lively celebration. Many stories were shared of the gains registered over the years.
The core business of the academy is a three-month residential course to youth aged 18-25; with a minimum Grade 9; no criminal record and who are not in employment, education or training. Upon graduating, students embark on a one-year work placement to acquire much needed work experience. These placements are made possible by the Western Cape Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety.
The Academy will be launching a publication on 15 July, marking 25 years of holistic youth development and round off the celebrations with a Fun Run through the Porter Estate in October 2025.
Amidst the dance, and joy making, all present committed themselves to a further 25 years of Excellence! Minister Marais, while cutting the birthday cake shared that the academy gives her much hope for the future!
