Minister Ricardo Mackenzie mourns the passing of Christopher “Chippie” Solomon

Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, has expressed deep sadness at the passing of Christopher “Chippie” Solomon on Saturday, 11 April 2026, a highly respected figure in Western Cape rugby.

Mr Solomon was a dedicated servant of the game and a valued member of the DHL Stormers family. Over 21 seasons and more than 350 matches, he played an important behind-the-scenes role, supporting generations of players, coaches, and staff. He also contributed as a selector for SA Schools and was a rugby player in his own right.

Minister Mackenzie said Mr Solomon’s impact went far beyond the field:
“The Western Cape has lost a true servant of the game. Chippie Solomon was a mentor, a steady presence, and someone who helped shape the spirit of rugby in our province. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.”

He added that Solomon represented values such as humility, loyalty, and service, and that his contribution to rugby will not be forgotten.

The Minister extended condolences to Mr Solomon’s family, friends, colleagues, and the broader rugby community.

The Western Cape Government stands with the rugby fraternity in mourning the loss of a man whose legacy will continue to inspire.
