Extend condolences to families of LEAP officers
Minister Reagen Allen and MMC JP Smith extend condolences to families of LEAP officers
It is with great sadness that we have been informed that two LEAP officers passed away in the early hours of this morning in the vicinity of Kraaifontein, after the vehicle they were travelling in, left the road and overturned.
We are deeply saddened to learn that officers Sixolile Maram and Simphiwe Ntsham, who are attached to the Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) Unit in Kraaifontein, lost their lives in this manner. Both officers who were off duty, were found outside the vehicle and declared deceased on the scene, which occurred at Boy Briers Road, Joostenbergvlakte, Kraaifontein.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen said: “I extend my sincerest condolences to the families, loved ones and colleagues of these officers. I want them to know that they are in all our thoughts and prayers during this difficult period. I pray that they will find strength and peace in these moments of sorrow and pain. It is important that there be no speculation about what might have occurred. We should allow SAPS to conclude their investigation. I intend to visit the families to personally extend my heartfelt sympathies.”
Alderman JP Smith added: "I have reached out to both families to speak to them personally to commiserate with them about these tragic deaths. Each staff member in our directorate is part of our Safety & Security family and their deaths are felt by us all. We will support their families with counselling and any arrangements they need to make."
Any person who may have witnessed the incident or who might have information about what transpired, is urged to report it to SAPS or to the City of Cape Town Crime Tip-Off Line: 0800 11 00 77.
