The Vision Inspired Priority (VIP 2: Growth and Jobs) of the Provincial Strategic Plan (PSP) captures the Provincial measures of success to grow the economy and jobs over the next five years. To attract more investment, boost economic growth, and create more job opportunities, our Department will make the province more competitive. Economic growth and inclusive job creation, can be propelled by driving regional competitiveness, attracting investment, investing in infrastructure, and growing exports. Resource resilience serves as its foundation and can either limit or promote economic growth.

Due to the structural nature of our economy, issues relating to equal opportunity access are considered across all of these focus areas. Improving the overall business environment is vital. The WCG needs to make it easier for enterprises from the smallest township SMMEs to the largest foreign investors to do business. Similarly, there’s a need to enable the government to do business with the private sector more efficiently.

The Department will enhance the productive and competitive capability of the provincial economy. It will catalyse economic growth and employment creation through;

• Accelerating the ease of doing business,
• Boosting private sector investment and promoting exports,
• Enterprise development,
• Scaling up work opportunities, and
• Ensuring economic resilience.

To attain the vision, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism will provide leadership to the Western Cape economy through the Department’s understanding of the economy, its ability to identify economic opportunities and potential, and its contribution to government economic priorities.
