Department launches online platform to streamline Section 24G applications
The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning has introduced a new web-based application platform to enhance the submission and processing of Section 24G applications in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (NEMA).
This digital service forms part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to improving efficiency, accessibility, and transparency in environmental governance. The platform enables applicants to submit documentation online, track the progress of their applications in real time, and engage directly with the Department through a more streamlined and user-friendly interface.
The Sub-Directorate: Rectification will continue to oversee the assessment of all applications, ensuring that each submission is processed in line with legislative requirements and established environmental standards. In addition, the Department will provide ongoing support and guidance to applicants, including responding to queries and offering clarity on compliance processes related to Section 24G.
The introduction of the online system is expected to reduce administrative delays, improve turnaround times, and strengthen accountability, while making it easier for applicants to meet regulatory obligations.
Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAPs) are encouraged to make use of the platform and engage with the Department to ensure responsible environmental management and compliance. Please note that existing applications will continue to be processed during this transitional period.
