DEDAT secures skills partnerships to enhance post-schooling and basic education pathways

DEDAT secured three international partnerships that are linked to improving post-schooling and linkages to the improvement of education-based pathways and the overall community development theme that we plan to incorporate for the PCS agenda.

Three international partnerships to highlight aimed to support the roll-out of occupational dual training delivery through public TVET colleges in the province to address the provincial skills needs for the economy.

This is in support of expanding post-schooling pathways and improving the ecosystem.

Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirstschaft (BBW)

We secured an international partnership with Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirstschaft (BBW), which is linked with the Free State of Bavaria, and WCG Joint Action Plan. We managed to leverage from this partnership a funded TVET Train the Trainer lecturer capacity-building targeting 22 lecturers in digital literacy and improving teaching pedagogies to support of the dual occupational training delivery. The project was completed at the end of 2024, but we have been advocating for support to roll out a 3rd cohort since the start of the financial year because we see the benefit of instilling international best practices and learnings to support our public TVET colleges as they scale up dual occupational delivery.

Moving North with TVET Students

Moving North with TVET Students

We collaborated, in partnership with public TVET colleges, particularly False Bay college, with Moving North, an international partner that has to date assisted 14 TVET graduates in various technical fields that have been trained in German and fully funded for 12-month work placement at international companies to gain work exposure that supports the dual occupational training delivery that will be scaled by our TVETs. This opportunity allows graduates to gain international work exposure for up to 12 months in Germany from 2025 through the Moving North - Ems-Achse Expats collaboration. The 19-student cohort has been identified for placement in 2026.

Cummins launches its TEC Programme in Khayelitsha

Cummins, a global power technology leader, today officially launched the Technical Education for Communities (TEC) programme at the False Bay TVET College Khayelitsha campus, Cape Town, following an extensive renovation of the mechanical engineering training workshop. DEDAT joined the panel engagement together with the college and the CUMMINS team to unpack the importance of such collaborations and how we can collectively scale such initiatives between the private sector, academia, and the community to promote community upliftment. The TEC programme is delivered in partnership with False Bay TVET College and forms part of Cummins READY, the company’s global education strategy aimed at expanding equitable access to STEM and skills development opportunities in the communities where it operates.
