Economic Research and Development

The Research, Economic Policy, and Planning (REPP) team is a unit within the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. REPP serves as the economic thought leader for both the Western Cape and the broader African continent. Rooted in forward-looking policy development, the unit's core mission is to inform and shape effective economic policy, strategic planning, and decision-making through robust economic intelligence – empowering decision-makers and fostering sustainable growth.

Regular, standardised briefs and reports are produced by the team to offer critical insights into key economic indicators like unemployment, GDP, and business confidence in the Western Cape.

Through targeted research and economic intelligence outputs, the team contributes directly to advancing the Growth for Jobs (G4J) strategy.

A deep dive into the macroeconomic environment enables the team to uncover trends and provide well-grounded perspectives on regional development.
