Department of Infrastructure brings services to Lentegeur
The Department of Infrastructure showcased its services at the Infrastructure Services Fair held in partnership with the City of Cape Town at the Lentegeur Civic Centre, Mitchells Plain, on 31 July 2025.
As part of an on ongoing initiative to take services to communities, the engagement provided an accessible and interactive platform where community members could source information, register on supplier and housing platforms, and interact with senior officials of the Department.
Community members interested in careers in the built sector were able to engage with staff members about the Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme, and the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) learnership and apprenticeship opportunities.
“We have a multitude of programmes that are designed not just to create opportunities for our people”, said Tertuis Simmers, Provincial Minister of Infrastructure, “but ultimately so we can uplift our communities to equip them with the skills they need and the tools they need to actually succeed.”
Minister Simmers encouraged community members to share the bursary information with young people who would like to pursue a career in the built environment sector.
“If you are aware of a matriculant that does well in maths and science, who’s interested in becoming an engineer, town planner, roads engineer or any of the technical fields related to our sector, please get the information and ask them to apply for next year’s intake.”
The Services Fair provided an opportunity for small business owners to register or update their details on supplier databases, notably, the Central Supplier Database (CSD), which is a critical requirement for being eligible for working with government.
“For those who have businesses, whether you’re a contractor, caterer, or supplier, we are here to assist with the registration on the databases”, said the Department of Infrastructure’s Renecia Marks. “We are here to share with you where there are opportunities with regards to tenders, small quotations and to give guidance on how to grab hold of those opportunities.”
The Human Settlements Helpdesk assisted community members with housing subsidy enquiries, and general advice on title deeds, transfers of property, and deceased estates.
