Nearly 3000 new homes coming to Swartland

Media Release by Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers

On Thursday, 23 April 2026, Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers handed over 17 homes to housing beneficiaries in Moorreesburg.

At R162.8 million, the Moorreesburg housing project will yield 635 units of which 280 are completed. 205 of these have already been handed over to beneficiaries. The expected completion date of the project is June 2027. 

The Moorreesburg housing project forms part of a larger development in the Swartland Municipality which will yield an additional 139 units in Darling and 1986 units in De Hoop, Malmesbury, bringing the total number housing opportunities in this area to 2778.

At the handover ceremony in Moorresburg, Minister Simmers said, “I am very proud of the strides we are making in the region. Projects such as these prove that the Western Cape Government delivers more and faster than any other province in the country. And that is my goal – to further accelerate infrastructure development in our province.”

Receiving the keys to her new home, Katarina Josef, said, “I wish to thank all relevant role players for making this possible. I am thankful and very happy to be in my very own home today.”

“Delivering housing opportunities goes far beyond four walls and a roof over people’s heads. When we hand over a home to our beneficiaries, we are also restoring dignity. Serving the people of this province is at the heart of what the Western Cape Government does every day,” Minister Simmers concluded.
