What is the Better Living Model?

The Conradie Better Living Model is a partnership project between the Western Cape Government and private businesses to build accessible, affordable, sustainable and safe housing at the site of the Old Conradie Hospital in Pinelands.

The goal of the Better Living Model is to build an exceptional community where everything you need is within walking distance. The Conradie Park development will not only have flats and houses of various sizes but also shops, restaurants, schools, medical services, crèches, and plenty of open parks and green spaces.

What is Conradie Park?

The Conradie Better Living Model is made up of many clusters of flats and townhouses. Retired citizens over the age of 65 have dedicated buildings, which are equipped with assisted living facilities and frail care units nearby. Other buildings are for young families and are close to parks, crèches, schools, and libraries.

At Conradie Park, 49% of homes are for low-income families who earn between R3 500 and R15 000 per month.

How can I live at Conradie Park?

If you qualify for Social Housing, you can apply to rent a flat at Conradie Park through the Social Housing Institute Own Haven.

Some units in the Conradie Park are available for purchase, and if you qualify, you can use a housing subsidy to help you buy your first home. You can learn more about the kinds of housing subsidies that are available.

How soon can I live at Conradie Park?

New units at Conradie Park will become available over the next few years, starting in 2022. Many people are excited to live in these new homes, but it’s important to keep in mind that availability is limited.

What is Social housing?

Social housing is an opportunity for people in our cities and towns to rent a flat, apartment, or small house.

The rent you pay for your unit will be calculated according to your monthly income, not how much the unit is worth. This means that you can afford to live closer to schools, work opportunities, and transport options.

How can I apply for social housing?

There may not be a rental unit available immediately, and you will be put on a waiting list. Here are some available rental opportunities:
