Operator Helpdesk on Wheels
No more long trips for licences and permits
Public transport operators in remote areas of the Western Cape, such as the Central Karoo, Overberg, and West Coast, often travel long distances to renew or apply for operating licences, additional authorities, transfers, or duplicates.
To make these essential services more accessible and ensure a safe, well-regulated transport system, the Western Cape Department of Mobility launched the Operator Helpdesk on Wheels (officially the Service Delivery Mobile Vehicle). This fully functional mobile unit brings these critical services directly to rural communities.
This initiative simplifies compliance and supports local transport operators. Beyond convenience, the vehicle boosts the Department’s presence, promotes inclusivity, and supports road regulation compliance, showing a long-term commitment to responsive and resident-focused mobility services.
Services offered
The Operator Helpdesk on Wheels helps both current and new operators, as well as vulnerable residents. The service offers:
- Help with applying for or renewing operating licences.
- Guidance on transport rules and compliance.
- Registration on the online portal.
- Assistance with small tasks, like updating details, checking application status, and submitting documents.
- Support for all public transport operators, including scholar transport, charter services, staff transport, and minibus taxis.
By bringing these services to communities, the Department ensures that everyone, including essential transport service providers, can access essential mobility services.
How the Mobile Helpdesk works
The vehicle follows a set rotation, visiting towns and districts based on community needs. We partner with local municipalities, ward councillors, and transport associations to ensure services run smoothly.
The vehicle is equipped with computers, internet access, power backup, and secure document handling. It is staffed by trained officials who deliver efficient and professional service wherever it operates.
To find out when the Operator Helpdesk on Wheels will be in your town, please check the schedule on our website. As the schedule may change, we recommend emailing the project team to confirm.
Residents and operators can look forward to:
- Less time and money spent on travel, allowing faster, easier access to licences, permits, and documents.
- Reduced waiting times and shorter queues at main provincial offices.
- Fair and equal access to essential services for everyone.
Community leaders and residents are encouraged to share their feedback to help improve services. Requests or invitations can be sent via email to the addresses listed below.
