Fraud, theft and corruption whistleblower

Government related fraud, theft and corruption are handled by different national and provincial Institutions. Each institution deals with certain aspects of such cases.

The Western Cape Government has a culture of zero-tolerance towards fraud, theft and corruption, and seeks to protect its assets, resources and reputation. The Provincial Forensic Services in the Department of the Premier’s Branch Corporate Assurance, is mandated to investigate allegations of fraud, theft and corruption affecting the Western Cape Government.

Report any suspicions or knowledge of fraud, theft or corrupt activities affecting the Western Cape Government by telephone, e-mail, post or by arranging a walk-in appointment with Provincial Forensic Services:

Allegations must contain factual details. Try to provide as much information as possible, including:

  • Whether you wish to remain anonymous;
  • The Department that the allegation relates to (including the location of the institution or business unit);
  • The nature of the allegation (is it fraud, theft or corruption?);
  • The financial implication (if known);
  • The date of the alleged offence (when did it happen? Is it ongoing?);
  • Implicated person(s) (internal and external parties);
  • Details of the allegation (focussing on: who, what, when, where, how?);
  • What evidence (to your knowledge) is available? and
  • Have you reported the same allegation to another person/body?
