14th Clean Audit for Western Cape Department of Social Development
The Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD) has achieved its 14th consecutive clean audit for the 2024/2025 financial year.
This is an unqualified audit opinion with no findings by the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) under the Provincial Financial Management Act.
Western Cape Minister of Social Development Jaco Londt praised the department’s management and staff for their dedication to good governance.
“DSD has faced immense fiscal challenges over the years, especially in trying to meet the ever-increasing demand for social services, but the department has ensured that every cent is accounted for and spent well. In an ideal world it should not be celebrated that government does what is expected of it, however, in the South African context it’s important to highlight the work of departments – like those within the Western Cape Government – that show it is possible to adhere to fiscal discipline to enhance service delivery.”
Minister Londt also acknowledged the important role of partner NGOS and NPOs. “We are one of the few provinces that can boast about paying transfers to organisations on time. In fact, many of the NGOs we support get paid months in advance. Thank you to the organisations that work with us in ensuring our service footprint is spread as far as possible across the Western Cape, and that norms and standards are met. We will always try to help NGOs and NPOs that are doing their best with their limited resources to provide support to the most vulnerable in our province. This is why we established the Cape Care Fund, to increase support to organisations that are in good standing. Through the fund, donors can be assured that their support is going to where it’s needed most, and that it is backed by credible institutions like our department and The Health Foundation.”
