Launch of Metro North GBV Ambassador Programme
For the final day of the 16 Days of Activism For No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, the Western Cape Department of Social Development is ramping up its efforts in tackling Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
On 10 December 2024, Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Jaco Londt, will launch the Department’s GBV Ambassador Programme for the Metro North region, which covers Dunoon, Bishop Lavis, Langa, Elsies River, and Fisantekraal. This is the seventh GBV Ambassador programme in the province.
GBV ambassadors are trained volunteers from the communities where they live who will assist DSD with raising awareness about support services for survivors of abuse and domestic violence.
They work with the Department throughout the year – not just during the 16 Days campaign – as part of the Western Cape Government’s efforts to address the scourge of GBV 365 days a year.
