About Minister Jaco Londt
With over 20 years of experience in South African politics, Western Cape Minister of Social Development Jaco Londt is a seasoned politician who served on various Select Committees as a member of the National Council of Provinces from 2014 to 2024, with a brief stint in the National Assembly.
The Select Committees he served on, include Trade and Industry, Economic Development, Small Business Development, Tourism, Employment and Labour, Transport, Public Service and Administration, and Public Works and Infrastructure.
In June 2024, he was elected as Western Cape Minister of Social Development by Premier Alan Winde. The Western Cape Department of Social Development is regarded as the heart of the provincial government, showcasing that this government works for all our citizens, especially the province’s most vulnerable residents through a whole-of-society approach with various stakeholders.
Minister Londt recognises that vulnerable residents are the hardest hit by any challenges that affect the people of the Western Cape.
It is for this reason that his work will prioritise the protection of those in need: “This is where we will warrant that no citizen of the Province is left behind. Although we are in an environment where budgets are cut by the national government, the Western Cape will continue to ensure the poor and vulnerable do not bear the brunt. We will focus on protecting the dignity and well-being of all clients of this Department.”
