Western Cape Education Department National Senior Certificate Examinations 2017 Awards to Schools

In the first category, schools are awarded in terms of Improvement in pass rate, greatest increase in the percentage of candidates achieving access to Bachelor's degree studies and improvement and excellence in individual subjects.

In the second category, awards are made to all public, independent and Technical High Schools that achieve excellence in academic performance.

All schools will receive a certificate.

Most Improved Schools

Awards will be made to nine (09) public schools with 30 or more candidates that have shown the greatest improvement in pass rate over the period 2015 to 2017. The criteria also include consistency in the number of Grade 12 candidates over the 3 year period from 2015 to 2017.

Category : Most improved technical high school

An award will be made to one (1) technical high school with 30 or more candidates that have shown the greatest improvement in pass rate over the period 2015 to 2017. The criteria also include consistency in the number of Grade 12 candidates over the 3 year period from 2015 to 2017.

Category: Greatest increase in the percentage of Bachelor's passes

Awards will be made to ten (10) schools with 30 or more candidates that have shown the greatest increase in the percentage of candidates achieving access to Bachelor's degree studies over the period 2015 to 2017. The criteria also include consistency in number of Grade 12 candidates over the 3 year period from 2015 to 2017.

Category - Improvement and excellence in individual subjects

Improvement
This is awarded to one school in the province that showed the greatest improvement in performance in the subject in 2017, compared to their performance in 2016, by increasing the number of passes in that subject.

Excellence
This is awarded to one school in the province that produced the highest number of passes in the subject in 2017.

Category - Excellence in Academic Performance

In this category, awards are presented to the top schools in the province (including independent schools) that have achieved excellence in academic results in 2017, based on the following criteria:

Category - school with an NSC enrolment of less than 30 candidates

 

  1. Consistency in number of Grade 12 candidates over the 3 year period of 2015 to 2017 where the number wrote in 2017 must not be less than 90% of the average of numbers wrote in 2015, 2016, 2017
  2. An overall pass rate of at least 95% in 2017: 10% weight
  3. % of candidates with access to Bachelor's degree study in 2017 that is 80% and above: 60% weight
  4. % of candidates with Mathematics passes in 2017 that is 60% and above: 30% weight

TWO AWARDS ARE ALLOCATED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

 

  1. Consistency in number of Grade 12 candidates over a period of 3 years (2015 - 2017)
  2. An overall pass rate of at least 80% in 2017
  3. % of candidates with Mathematics passes in 2017 that is 40% and above
  4. Aggregate pass rate of the technical subjects (Engineering Graphics and Design; Civil Technology; Electrical Technology and Mechanical Technology)
