Second Chance Matric Support Programme: Free Tutoring Classes

Information about the Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP) and Second Chance Tutoring Centres in the Western Cape available to part-time candidates registered for the NSC October/November 2025 examination

  1. The Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP) is offered by the Department of Basic Education to assist National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) part-time candidates to prepare for the May/June and October/November examinations. It is important to note that SC part-time candidates will only be allowed to write the May/June examination and cannot register to write the October/November examination.

  2. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) established Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP) centres in the Western Cape in 2025.

  3. The centres will provide support to part-time candidates who have not been able to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and are registered to write in the October/November 2025 examination.

  4. Registration to attend the second chance tutoring classes will take place from 09:00-13h00 on Saturday, 16 August 2025 at the SCMP centres listed below.

  5. Documents to take along for the registration of the second chance tutoring classes on Saturday 16 August 2025:
    1. A copy of your ID document.
    2. A copy of the Confirmation Slip that you are registered for the October/November 2025 examinations.

  6. The programme will provide free tutoring to:
    1. Candidates who wrote the NSC exam in previous exam sittings from 2008 to 2025 and wish to rewrite any of their subjects in order to improve their overall results.
    2. Candidates who wrote the NSC exam in previous exam sittings from 2008 to 2025 and wish to rewrite any of their subjects in order to improve their overall results, as well as NSC candidates offering new subjects for which they will complete the School-Based Assessments (SBA) in 2025.

  7. The tutoring will cover the following subjects:

Accounting | Business Studies | Economics | English First Additional Language | Geography | History | Life Sciences | Mathematics | Mathematical Literacy | Physical Sciences

  8. Master teachers will provide face-to-face tutoring at selected venues.

  9. In the face-to-face classes, Mind the Gap study material will be used in eight of the subjects, in addition to past question papers and study guides.

  10. There is NO COST involved. All tuition is offered free of charge.

  11. Candidates had to, however, register individually to write the NSC October/November 2025 examination, and attending the Second Chance Matric Programme does not mean that candidates are automatically registered for the examination.
